So with illness of some of the University band members, will they have to play chamber music instead? Or a jazz combo?
Edward Davis (he, him)

Some service isn't controlled. The students seek out faculty who they think will understand their experiences.

Has the university considered increasing capacity? The wait list for the infant room was 2 over years long even before the pandemic. When we finally were accepted, we had to decline in favor of another program because at the time Vivan Olum was also not offering a full day of daycare.

I’m no labor economists, but I believe higher wages generally increase labor supply.

I’m actually working from home because my 6 year old daughter has to quarantine even though she has no symptoms.

Thank you Stephanie. Our childcare workers need to be paid a living wage.

I look forward to speaking to any faculty and staff parents who would like to discuss this further please?

SIEU Pay Actions start teaching Classified staff at either $13.73 or $15.81 depending on level: https://hr.uoregon.edu/classification-compensation/seiu/seiu-monthly-salary-schedule

Thank you for addressing the child care issues on campus. I’m wondering if there’s anything in the report about campus child care from a few years ago that might be helpful for long-term planning beyond this immediate problem.
Stephanie Prentiss she/her SEIU Pres. 085 Higher Ed. BOD
36:22
Childcare on campus is absolutely cost prohibitive for Classified Staff

I'm just a GE, lurking, because this body makes policy which affects me and I like to be informed. But, I'm about to drop out ("leave of absence") in December. My rent is going up. I just can't afford to go here anymore on my salary when I can get a "real job" elsewhere. I hope that GE salaries, although a side conversation, also don't escape the conversation. Mid year raises may be needed, even though that's not a typical thing.

There are several centers in town that provide high quality care that compete with Olum. Olum doesn’t have space (or schedules) for everyone. It would be nice to see concern expanded to obtaining childcare more broadly.

FYI, here are a few references on the "minority tax". The second article is based on extensive interviews with faculty evidently at U of Michigan, and analysis of those interviews.Padilla, A. M.
